BISHKEK -- Kyrgyz lawmaker Aisuluu Mamasheva, a member of the Ata Meken Party, sounded the alarm about "poor" enforcement of the law against bride kidnapping.
Only one man has been convicted of the crime since the law took effect in 2015, she said at a Bishkek conference on preventing gender and domestic violence, 24.kg reported Tuesday (June 26).
The law itself is fine but its enforcement is lacking, she said.
Kyrgyzstan needs to write laws that it will enforce, she said, noting that a new criminal code takes effect in 2019.
