TASHKENT -- European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) President Suma Chakrabarti visited Uzbekistan Tuesday-Wednesday (July 31-August 1) to confer with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev as well as with deputy prime ministers Sukhrob Kholmuradov, Alisher Sultanov and Jamshid Kuchkarov, said the EBRD in a statement.
Chakrabarti intended to sign several loan agreements with private firms, as well as memoranda of understanding with the Uzbek government "aimed at supporting energy and energy efficiency-related investments, privatisation and capital market development", said the EBRD.
The EBRD re-opened its office in Tashkent last November after Mirziyoyev, who became president in 2016, began carrying out ambitious reforms.
