BISHKEK -- Kyrgyzstan is planning to form a police force by the end of 2018 to protect tourists, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) reported Thursday (August 16), quoting the Interior Ministry (MVD).

Tajikistan and Uzbekistan already both have such police forces.

Tajikistan created its tourist police shortly after the July 29 slaying of four foreign tourists in Danghara District, an attack claimed by "Islamic State" (IS).

Uzbekistan's tourist police began operating last December.
