Kyrgyz native sentenced in Russia for financing Syrian militants

MOSCOW -- Russia's Far Eastern District Military Court sentenced a Kyrgyz-born Russian citizen to four and a half years in prison for financing terrorists in Syria, reported Friday (August 24), citing Russian media.

The resident of the Transbaikal region set up a terrorist financing channel and forwarded the proceeds to Jabhat Fateh al-Sham (formerly known as al-Nusra Front), al-Qaeda's affiliate in Syria, according to investigators.
