ASTANA -- Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev inaugurated the first trading session of the Astana International Exchange (AIX) Wednesday (November 14), while calling for less government management of the economy, Kazinform reported.

The government should manage "no more than 15% of the economy", Nazarbayev said at the ceremonial launch of the exchange, which is part of the Astana International Financial Centre (AIFC) Exchange.

A second stage of large-scale privatisation has started in Kazakhstan, said Nazarbayev, while highlighting AIX's role in attracting foreign capital.

"Our country accounts for 20% of the world uranium market... the demand will only go up," he noted.

"In the future, we plan to offer ... companies like Kazakhtelecom, Air Astana, KazMunaiGas and more for sale," said Nazarbayev.
