US envoy for Afghan reconciliation to head to Central Asia for talks


WASHINGTON, DC -- US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad is set to visit Central Asia as part of a multi-country tour to discuss the peace process in Afghanistan, the US Department of State said in a statement Sunday (December 2).

Khalilzad will hold talks in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Russia, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, among other countries, with an inter-agency delegation December 2-20.

He is expected to meet with "Afghan government officials and other interested parties to support and facilitate an inclusive peace process in Afghanistan, empowering the Afghan people to decide their nation's fate", said the statement.
