ASTANA -- Kazakhstan's capital has seen a significant increase in its potential to attract tourists, Kazinform reported Friday (December 7).
More than 500,000 visitors have flocked to the city this year so far, according to the Astana Convention Bureau (ACB).
"Swift development and promotion of the city's brand contributed to holding large conferences, exhibitions, and cultural and sports events year after year," said ACB's marketing chief, Aigerim Beisembayeva.
"Today Astana is positioning itself ... to host the most important discussions in Central Asia on solving global problems," she said. "The capital has every chance to become one of the top tourist destinations in Central Asia -- and in the world, someday."
The city has more than 130 locations for hosting events, including the facilities built for a 2017 energy-themed world's fair, EXPO-2017.
