Kyrgyz lawmakers urge shift to organic food production

BISHKEK -- Kyrgyz lawmakers are recommending that the country's farmers produce only organic products, reported Thursday (December 13).

Parliament Speaker Dastanbek Dzhumabekov sent an instruction to the government for agricultural products produced in Kyrgyzstan to be fully organic -- free of all genetically modified organisms and cultivated with natural fertilisers -- within 10 years.

Farmers should use only biological plant protection and organic fertilisers, say lawmakers supporting the legislation.
