ASTANA -- Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan agreed to set up a council as part of an agreement on energy co-operation, Kazinform reported, citing Kazakh Energy Minister Kanat Bozumbayev.

The Energy Co-operation Co-ordination Council "will contribute to boosting further co-operation of the two countries, taking into consideration that such an approach will allow a comprehensive effort to solve many issues that arise as part of bilateral trade of oil, oil products, natural gas and petrochemical products and in the electrical industry", he told parliament Wednesday (February 20).

Kazakhstan's lower chamber has already approved the draft law ratifying the agreement.
