US, Turkmen officials discuss co-operation in Ashgabat

ASHGABAT -- A US diplomatic delegation met with Turkmen officials Thursday (May 2) in Ashgabat, AKIpress reported, citing the Turkmen Foreign Ministry.

Mark Moody, director of the Central Asian Affairs Office of the US Department of State Bureau for South and Central Asian Affairs, led the US delegation.

The two sides discussed political and regional issues, including the efforts on the situation in Afghanistan. Turkmen border forces have had deadly clashes with Afghan militants in recent years.

Turkmen and US officials pointed out the significance of collaboration in international platforms, including the regional co-operation format "C5+1" aimed at widening of inter-regional relations with the Central Asian countries.

The parties also determined the security, economy and humanitarian co-operation mechanisms between Turkmenistan and the United States and noted the vital role of the Turkmen-American Business Council.
