DUSHANBE -– US Ambassador to Tajikistan John Mark Pommersheim donated document examination equipment and immigration stamps to the country's Border Forces, according to a Tuesday (May 14) statement by the US embassy.

The ceremony in Dushanbe was attended by Col.-Gen. Rajabali Rahmonali, commander of the Tajik Border Forces.

The $100,000 (943,500 TJS) donation is part of a $500,000 (4.7 million TJS) project to enhance co-operation among the Kyrgyz, Tajik and Uzbek border forces.

The project seeks to provide technical support and to improve infrastructure and capacity building of the Tajik Border Forces.

In May the US embassy will also donate almost $300,000 (2.8 million TJS) in communications and transport equipment to facilitate patrols by the Border Forces.

Since 1992, the United States has provided more than $1.8 billion (17 billion TJS) in programmes and humanitarian aid to support Tajikistan.
