JALAL-ABAD, Kyrgyzstan -- Kyrgyz police arrested a Russian prison escapee in Jalal-Abad city who was convicted of an extremism-related crime in Russia, 24.kg reported Friday (July 12).
The 45-year-old, identified by his initials, Yu. K., is suspected of illegally possessing a firearm, according to the Jalal-Abad police.
"During an interrogation, the suspect admitted that he had hidden a firearm in one of the city cemeteries... the police found an Izh K-20 hunting rifle and 20 7.62mm rounds," said the police.
The detainee was convicted in Astrakhan, Russia, "for a crime related to extremism. Yu. K. escaped from prison and was wanted by Russian law enforcement", it said.
