DUSHANBE -- Tajikistan is hosting Regional Co-operation 2019, a multilateral command-post exercise organised by US Central Command (CENTCOM), according to a statement by CENTCOM.

The exercise, held in conjunction with regional partners from Central and South Asia and hosted by Tajik Defence Minister Sherali Mirzo, is set to run August 5-16 in Dushanbe.

Almost 200 personnel from the United States, Tajikistan, Mongolia and Uzbekistan and observers from Pakistan will participate.

The exercise focuses on enhancing multinational stability operations, counter-terrorism and counter-proliferation, with an emphasis on establishing a process to co-ordinate successful multinational operations, as well as investigating methods to improve civil-military interaction, according to CENTCOM.

The exercise also provides a forum for addressing relevant regional issues associated with security co-operation and the exchange of information when responding to border security, border control, counter-narcotics trade and counter-weapons of mass destruction.

The United States and Central and South Asian nations have been involved in the annual RC series since 2001. Last year's edition took place in the United States.
