Uzbek militant killed in Syria

IDLIB, Syria -- A car bomb June 18 in Idlib, Syria, killed the top Uzbek field commander of the al Qaeda-affiliated extremist group Jabhat al-Nusra, Al-Masdar News reported last week.

The slain commander, Abu Bakr al-Uzbeki, had fought in the Syrian war since April 2015. He was the sixth militant commander killed in the Idlib Governorate in a four-day span. Nobody took responsibility for the car bomb, Fergana News reported.
