87 Afghan militants, 30 police cadets killed

KABUL -- Afghan troops recently killed at least 87 militants nationwide and arrested a number of suspects, including three suspected would-be suicide bombers and a suspected Taliban commander.

Troops June 29 killed at least 73 militants in Kamdish District, Nuristan Province, the Afghan National Army (ANA) said June 30, according to TOLO News.

The National Directorate of Security (NDS) recently detained three suspected would-be suicide bombers in Helmand Province, the NDS said in a June 30 statement, according to TOLO News.

Security forces in Uruzgan Province recently killed at least 14 militants including the Taliban commander for the province, provincial police chief Brig. Gen. Mohammad Wais Samimi said June 29, according to Pajhwok Afghan News.

Security forces recently arrested a Taliban commander and some other militants in Charikar, Parwan Province, the NDS said June 29, according to the Afghanistan Times.

Two Taliban suicide bombers June 30 near Kabul blew up buses carrying police trainees, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty reported.

The attack, 20km outside Kabul, killed 30 cadets and injured dozens more, the Interior Ministry said.

The death toll is likely to grow because the buses were carrying about 200 cadets. They were travelling from Maidan Wardak Province to Kabul.
