Turkmenistan fears radicalisation of some Muslims

By Dzhumaguly Annayev

ASHGABAT -- Turkmen security agencies are keeping a close eye on the country's religious communities for fear of radicalisation, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty's Turkmen service reported September 28, quoting the Norwegian NGO Forum-18.

Turkmen authorities are undertaking various firm measures to prevent radicalisation among Muslims, a Ministry of National Security (MNB) source who requested anonymity told Caravanserai without specifying those measures.

Turkmenistan is the only Central Asian country never to officially acknowledge that some of its citizens have joined the militancy in Syria and Iraq.
