Kyrgyz MVD reports on preventing extremism and radicalism

BISHKEK -- Raim Salimov, deputy chief of the Interior Ministry (MVD) 10th Main Administration, which fights extremism, presented a report at a November 4 Bishkek conference honouring the 20th anniversary of the founding of the State Commission for Religious Affairs (GKDR), the MVD press office said in a statement.

Salimov spoke on reform of the government's policy on religion. Civil servants, NGO employees, journalists, scholars and others attended the conference.

Salimov described the growth of extremism in Kyrgyzstan, the 10th Main Administration's work against it, and the GKDR's work in conducting theological analyses of seized materials.

Salimov called for expansion of co-operation between the clergy and government agencies and for a shared system of information provision for government agencies and civil society.
