ASTANA -- Kazakhstan recently launched the "500 educated imams" programme nationwide, the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Kazakhstan (DUMK) said, according to a December 5 Tengrinews report.
The programme is meant to ensure that in the middle term, every imam will have both a theological and secular education.
Officials also suggest instituting a programme in all mosques so that non-Kazakh-speaking mosque-goers can hear a Russian-language explanation afterward of Kazakh-language sermons.
