ALMATY -- The Berkut training centre for special forces opened recently in Zarechnyi village, Almaty Province, Kazakhstan Today reported December 28.
The centre has capacity to train 500 troops simultaneously. Various Kazakhstani special forces already are undergoing training there. Kazakhstan plans to instruct forces from various countries like Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan there as well.
The military created the training centre as part of the government's 2014-2016 counter-terrorism programme.
The Taliban have been using advanced weapons available only to the Russian military, according to a security source in western Afghanistan.
Popular support in Central Asia for Islamist insurgencies in the Middle East and beyond is waning.
