Workshop trains Kazakhstani theologians how to rehabilitate radicals

By Alexander Bogatik

ASTANA -- Fourteen Kazakhstani theologians Thursday-Saturday (July 27-29) in Astana underwent training on how to rehabilitate radicalised individuals, the Religious Affairs and Civil Society Ministry said in a statement.

The government-backed NGO Counter-Terrorism Committee (CTC) of Kazakhstan, carrying out a contract with the ministry, conducted the workshop.

The theologians studied causes and symptoms of radicalisation and heard recommendations on how to render theological and legal assistance to radicals.

The workshop is a pilot project, said Amanjon Urazbayev, chairman of the CTC, adding that more such training for theologians will take place in all eight provinces and in Astana.
