DUSHANBE -- A Tajik official is in custody in connection with charges of taking a $490,000 (4.3 million TJS) bribe, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) reported Tuesday (October 3), quoting the country's Anti-Corruption Agency.
Police September 28 in Dushanbe caught Economic Development Ministry official Askar Nuralizoda accepting the bribe, according to the agency.
They reportedly found another $10,000 (87,911 TJS) in Nuralizoda's home.
Tajik authorities began cracking down on corruption in April. A former Anti-Corruption Agency official, Firuz Holmurodzoda, received a 15-year prison term in September.
