DUSHANBE -- Tajik Drug Control Agency (AKN) personnel have seized about 14kg of drugs in two separate operations, the agency's press office said in a statement Thursday (October 19).
AKN and State National Security Committee (GKNB) personnel arrested an Afghan national on October 15 in the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Province (GBAO). The suspect allegedly rode an inner tube across the Panj River into Tajikistan while carrying more than 9.2kg of hashish.
In a separate, undated operation, AKN personnel arrested a Tajik national with almost 4.8kg of hashish in his possession in a Dushanbe parking lot.
The AKN obtained a confession and picked up a suspected Tajik accomplice. Both men are undergraduates who allegedly acquired the hashish from an Afghan national and intended to sell it.
A search is under way for the Afghan suspect, said the press office.
