SARATOV, Russia -- The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) arrested an Uzbekistani citizen in Saratov Province accused of trying to join militants in Syria, 1News.uz reported Monday (October 30).
The suspect, 24, was preparing to go to Syria and had sought travelling companions online, according to the FSB press office.
Authorities found extremist literature in a search of his belongings, said the FSB.
If convicted, the suspect could receive 15 years in prison.
The Taliban have been using advanced weapons available only to the Russian military, according to a security source in western Afghanistan.
