Kyrgyzstan to open rehabilitation centre for disabled children

BISHKEK -- Kyrgyzstan will soon open a rehabilitation centre for children with disabilities, 24.kg reported Tuesday (July 3).

The announcement of the Republican Centre for the Rehabilitation and Development of Children with Disabilities was made at a co-ordination meeting on European Union (EU) projects supporting vulnerable portions of the population.

The centre will be set up at a children's hospital in Jalal-Abad that specialises in psycho-neurological and social issues, according to the Ministry of Labour and Social Development.

"This unique centre will provide a range of services for children with severe disabilities and [the] families who care for such children. The main tasks of the centre will be diagnosis of child development, parent counselling, physical therapy interventions and rehabilitation of children," said the ministry in a statement.

"In addition, new professions in social work will be introduced," it added.
