6 suspected 'Islamic State' militants arrested in Almaty
ALMATY -- The Kazakh National Security Committee (KNB) last Thursday (January 10) in Almaty detained a number of foreign citizens suspected of plotting terrorist acts in Kazakhstan, the KNB said in a Monday (January 14) statement.
The photograph of the suspects shows six men, although the statement did not disclose the number of arrests.
The suspects, all foreigners from other Central Asian countries, were plotting to make their own bombs and to commit terrorist acts in public places in Almaty, said the KNB, adding that it found bomb components, firearms and munitions in their residence.
The accused militants received orders from "Islamic State" (IS) militants based abroad, added the KNB.
