NUR-SULTAN -- The Kazakh government for 2019 has allocated funds for more than 53,000 scholarships for those seeking bachelor's degrees, AKIpress reported Wednesday (June 19), citing Minister of Education and Science Askhat Aimagambetov.

The government will provide more than 13,000 scholarships for those seeking master's degrees, the same number as in 2018, Aimagambetov said at a news conference.

Funding is also available for 2,312 scholarships for Ph.D. candidates, he said.

The ministry will ensure that potential applicants hear about the scholarships and about competition details, such as the list of documents necessary for their application, according to Aimagambetov.

Most of the scholarships this year were allocated for technical specialties, but some will fund study of social sciences as well, Aimagambetov said.

Educating the populace is one tool in the fight against extremism.
