Operation Zarb-e-Azb kills more than 3,000 terrorists

Staff Report

ISLAMABAD -- More than 3,000 terrorists and 490 soldiers were killed during Operation Zarb-e-Azb in the past two years, Lt. Gen. Asim Saleem Bajwa, Pakistani army spokesman, said June 15, according to Dawn and Geo TV.

The counter-insurgency operation in North Waziristan, which began in June 2014, has driven terrorists out of 3,600 sq. km of territory, Bajwa said.

The army so far has destroyed 992 militant hide-outs and 7,500 weapon factories, Bajwa said, adding that only a few pockets of militant sanctuaries remain in the Shawal Valley.

About 1,200 of the terrorists were killed in Karachi, where they fled from North Waziristan, Bajwa said.

Security forces will make more progress in coming days, Bajwa said.
