Uzbek penal system opens website for dealing with public

Staff Report

TASHKENT -- Citizens of Uzbekistan now may contact their country's penal system online with complaints and suggestions or to obtain information about the system's workings, CA-News.org reported Tuesday (January 3), quoting local media.

According to the report, the website has a number of restrictions: citizens using it are prohibited from libel, insults and provision of false reports of crimes, and may not keep submitting the same question over and over again unless their latest message contains new information or changed circumstances.

The website comes after then-Prime Minister Shavkat Mirziyoyev opened an online office last September for fielding complaints and suggestions. That site continues to operate, though he is now president.
