DUSHANBE -- Tajik law enforcement detained four high school graduates from Dushanbe at the Tajik-Afghan border in Khatlon Province for attempting to join the "Islamic State" (IS) in Afghanistan, Asia-Plus reported.

"Four young men, aged 17-18, were detained while attempting to illegally cross the Tajik-Afghan border," Mukhabbat Abdullozoda, director of the Drug Control Agency (AKN)'s office in Kulyab, told journalists Wednesday (July 25).

The date of the arrests was not given.

"As it turned out, they had sought to join the [IS] terror group," he said, adding that authorities discovered their plans from telephone conversations with IS members in Afghanistan.

Authorities are investigating.
