ASHGABAT -- Turkmen police and security and immigration personnel are searching all private residences and communal apartments the residents of which have gone abroad without returning yet, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty's Turkmen service reported recently, quoting Ashgabat journalist Amanmurad Bugayev.

Authorities are questioning the relatives of citizens who went abroad if those departees are under age 40. The authorities want to know the locations of those departees and their phone numbers.

Reportedly, the government is seeking to identify citizens who might have joined the Afghan Taliban or the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL).
