Taliban kidnap 25 passengers in Helmand; troops kill 24 militants

KABUL -- The Afghan Taliban June 21 kidnapped at least 25 bus passengers in Helmand Province, while troops killed at least 24 militants in Helmand and Ghazni provinces, officials said.

The Taliban stopped a bus in Gereshk District, Helmand Province, and took away 25 of the 45 passengers, TOLO News reported, quoting the provincial police chief and governor's press office.

Meanwhile, at least 12 Taliban, including two commanders, were killed recently in a militant attack on a military outpost in Nad Ali District, Helmand Province, the Afghan National Army (ANA) said in a June 21 statement.

Afghan police June 19 killed at least 12 militants in ambushes in Helmand and Ghazni provinces, the Ministry of Interior said June 20, according to Khaama Press.
