BISHKEK -- German Chancellor Angela Merkel wrapped up a "historic" July 13-14 visit to Kyrgyzstan that included talks with Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty reported July 14.
Atambayev termed Merkel's first trip to Kyrgyzstan "historic".
Topics for negotiations included Islamic extremism.
"We were in agreement that efforts should be made to train local imams as much as possible," Merkel said.
