Uzbekistan releases nearly 40,000 inmates

TASHKENT -- Uzbekistan released nearly 40,000 inmates as part of a parliamentary proclamation issued last autumn to celebrate the 24th anniversary of the country's constitution, CA-News.org reported Tuesday (January 23).

The amnesty took three months to carry out. The exact number of convicts freed was 39,748.
