Uzbekistani, Kazakhstani defence ministers confer on security

Staff Report

ASTANA -- Kazakhstani Defence Minister Col.-Gen. Saken Zhasuzakov and Uzbekistani counterpart Col.-Gen. Kabul Berdiyev held a working meeting in Astana, CA-News.org reported Friday (March 24).

As part of his trip to Astana, Berdiyev toured the National Defence University (NDU). Berdiyev was part of an Uzbekistani delegation led by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, which visited Astana Wednesday-Thursday (March 22-23). The countries' defence ministries reached agreements on co-operation, as did the NDU and the Armed Forces Academy of Uzbekistan.

In talks with Kazakhstani President Nursultan Nazarbayev, Mirziyoyev called his delegation's visit to Astana historic and hailed Kazakhstan's success last year in obtaining a two-year seat on the UN Security Council, CA-News.org reported separately.

"I'm certain that during the two years of [Kazakhstan's] temporary membership, the [council] will take measures concerning Afghanistan," predicted Mirziyoyev.
