BISHKEK -- Kyrgyz authorities arrested a suspected member of an international terrorist group, Kabar.kg reported Wednesday (June 14), quoting the State National Security Committee (GKNB) press office.
The date and location of the arrest were not reported. Authorities detained the man as part of efforts to thwart terrorist acts by militants returning from Syria.
The suspect, identified only as Ya. U., had been part of an unspecified international terrorist group since 2014 and fought in Syria, said the GKNB. He allegedly received orders to return to Kyrgyzstan and to form a terrorist cell for waging "jihad" in Kyrgyzstan.
