TEMIRTAU, Kazakhstan -- The government of Temirtau city held a question and answer panel for undergraduates meant to prevent extremism, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL)'s Kazakh service reported Tuesday (October 17).
Students were invited to ask questions about religion during the discussion, which was dubbed "Religious Extremism Is the Matrix of Violence."
A local imam, a local Orthodox cleric and the head of the Temirtau-based Centre for the Study and Analysis of Problems of Inter-Faith Relations answered questions.
Topics included hijabs in school, efforts to conflate Islam with terrorism, and the permissibility of converting from one religion to another, among others.
