BISHKEK -- Kyrgyzstan's State Committee for National Security (GKNB) Friday (February 8) announced it had arrested an alleged member of an international terrorist organisation who sought to create a group to conduct a terrorist attack in Kyrgyzstan, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) reported.

The suspect, a 30-year-old citizen of another Central Asian state, is wanted in his homeland in connection with felony charges, including those of a terrorist nature, according to the GKNB.

The suspect illegally entered Kyrgyzstan and was detained in Jalal-Abad during an ongoing counter-terrorism operation aimed at preventing terrorists from entering the country from conflict zones, said the GKNB, according to 24.kg.

The suspect had been trained in bomb making and in urban and mountain combat, the committee said.

Kyrgyz authorities are discussing the suspect's possible extradition with his native country, the GKNB said.
