Kyrgyz authorities arrest citizen accused of terrorist activities in Syria


BISHKEK -- Kyrgyzstan's State Committee for National Security (GKNB) has arrested a 28-year-old citizen of Kyrgyzstan accused of participating in terrorist activities in Syria, reported Wednesday (April 24).

The suspect underwent sabotage training and "actively participated in the hostilities in Syria" starting in 2016, the GKNB said in a statement.

"In November 2018, following instructions from leaders of an international terrorist organisation, he was withdrawn from Syria to form an underground cell and the await the arrival of other militants to conduct armed jihad in Central Asia," according to the GKNB.
