DUSHANBE -- Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin greeted European Council (EC) President Donald Tusk at the Dushanbe airport Wednesday (May 29) evening as Tusk began a tour of Central Asia, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty reported.

He is set to visit Tajikistan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan from Wednesday to Sunday (June 2).

As part of his visits, Tusk will discuss regional and bilateral co-operation, the environment, border management and regional security with the leaders of each nation, said the European Union (EU) in a May 25 statement. The EC sets overall priorities for the EU.

EU co-operation with Central Asia includes the Border Management Programme in Central Asia.

Tusk's trip is "a further expression of the EU commitment to stronger partnerships with the region and the individual countries", according to the EU statement.

Tusk's tour comes two weeks after the EU launched a new Central Asian strategy.
