Uzbekistan jails 5 ISIL sympathisers

TASHKENT -- The Samarkand Provincial Court August 12 announced its recent sentencing of five defendants, including one woman, to prison terms ranging from 10 to 13 years for intending to join the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) in Syria, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty reported that day.

The news comes after the sentencing in early July of six other Samarkand Province residents to prison terms for plotting to join ISIL.
