Turkmenistan to modernise border force

By Dzhumaguly Annayev

ASHGABAT -- Turkmenistan will prioritise the modernisation of the equipment used by the State Border Service (GPS), President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov said at a December 1 session of the country's Security Council, Char Tarapdan Radio reported.

Turkmenistan began a GPS modernisation plan after six border guards were killed in two incidences in 2014 with the Afghan Taliban.

After hearing reports from the directors of military and law enforcement agencies, Berdymukhamedov ordered them to strengthen their efforts for the sake of peaceful life in Turkmenistan.
