BISHKEK -- A five-year programme funded by Switzerland and the United Kingdom has improved the business environment in Kyrgyzstan and boosted investment, AKIpress reported Wednesday (December 13).

The initiative, part of the Central Asia Investment Climate Programme, was implemented by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), which worked closely with Kyrgyz government agencies.

The effort generated an estimated $14 million (976 million KGS) of investment during the past few years, according to programme results released by the IFC Tuesday (December 12).

"An attractive investment climate is a prerequisite for an economy that wants to grow and create jobs," said Martin Naegele, IFC country manager.

Daniyar Imanaliyev, deputy minister of economy, expressed gratitude to IFC for its long-standing support and hope for further co-operation.
