DUSHANBE -- Authorities in Sughd Province recently arrested two suspected members of Sodiqlar, a cell of the terrorist Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (IMU), AsiaPlus.tj reported August 3, quoting a source in provincial law enforcement. Those would be the first arrests of suspected Sodiqlar members in Tajikistan.

The suspects were identified only as I. Sh. of Ghafurov village and A. A. of Isfisor municipality. They allegedly became radicalised by an acquaintance whom they met in a mosque in 2014.

The suspects reportedly tried but failed to recruit other local residents to join Sodiqlar. They face charges of organising an extremist group.
