Iyman Foundation promotes anti-extremist Islam in Kyrgyzstan

By Asker Sultanov

BISHKEK -- The Iyman Foundation for the Development of Spiritual Culture stated that it hosted an author event for two books, "Imam al-Maturidi: the Flagship of the Right Way" and "The Prophet: a Herald of Peace" in Bishkek October 11.

According to Iyman, the books were published as part of the Kalen Zhana Iyman (Pen and Morals) project that it is running together with the Ulema Council of Kyrgyzstan.

The project aims to promote Islamic culture and values to counter religious extremism and terrorism in Kyrgyzstan.

"In order to ensure national security and our cultural identity, the state is creating an environment where traditional, moderate forms of Sunni Islam based on Hanafi jurisprudence and the Maturidi creed can strengthen and develop. These beliefs, which the majority of Kyrgyzstani citizens adhere to, have historically proven that they are tolerant and respectful of other beliefs in ethnically and religiously diverse areas," said Iyman.
