Kyrgyzstan's Interior Ministry identified 361 religious extremism crimes

BISHKEK -- On October 17, the Interior Ministry (MVD) held a panel discussion summing up the results of interior agencies' operations during the first nine months of this year.

Interior Minister Kashkar Junushaliyev, MVD Central Office department chairmen, interior agency heads from the provinces, Bishkek and Osh cities, as well as district and municipal interior agency division heads attended the discussion.

According to the First Deputy Interior Minister Suyun Omurzakov, "anti-extremism and terrorism operations uncovered 361 extremist crimes resulting in 148 criminal cases. The MVD has registered 4,154 extremist organisations".

To counter religious extremism and terrorism, 3,913 prevention events were held during the first nine months of this year, including lectures, seminars, round tables, and public outreach with a particular emphasis on reaching out to youth.

A total of 21,154 crimes occurred in the country during this period, MVD press service reported.
