Egypt deports 6 formerly detained Kazakhstanis

CAIRO -- Egypt has deported six Kazakhstani students whom it arrested July 19, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) reported Wednesday (August 2), quoting a Facebook post by Kazakhstani Foreign Ministry spokesman Anuar Zhainaqov.

Kazakhstan still does not know why Egypt arrested the six men, who were studying Arabic in Cairo, said Zhainaqov.

The students were not thought to be extremists, he said earlier.

Egyptian authorities Tuesday (August 1) notified Kazakhstan of the six students' deportation, said Zhainaqov, according to Interfax.
