DUSHANBE -- For the past week, troops and more police than usual have appeared on the streets of Dushanbe and other large Tajik cities, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL)'s Tajik service reported Wednesday (September 27).
The deployment is meant to maintain law and order and prevent terrorist acts, Interior Ministry (MVD) spokesman Umarjoni Emomali told RFE/RL without specifying further.
Security personnel have appeared at major Dushanbe landmarks and around government buildings and embassies.
