ALMATY -- The two suspected killers of Kazakh Olympic figure skater Denis Ten -- Arman Qudaibergenov and Nuraly Qiyasov -- pleaded not guilty Thursday (January 3) on the first day of their trial, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty reported.

Ten was fatally stabbed last July in Almaty after he confronted the two men, who were stealing his car's side mirrors, say investigators.

The two suspects denied charges of murder and robbery. A third defendant, Janar Tolybayeva, pleaded not guilty to charges of theft and failure to report a crime.

Ten, 25, was the first Kazakh figure skater ever to win an Olympic medal (bronze at Sochi in 2014).
