Kazakhstan celebrates Defender of the Fatherland Day

NUR-SULTAN -- Kazakhstan Tuesday (May 7) celebrated Defender of the Fatherland Day to mark the establishment of the nation's armed forces, Kazinform reported.

Nursultan Nazarbayev, the president at the time, signed the decree forming the military May 7, 1992.

Although Kazakhstan marked the date every year to honour the armed forces, it did not become a national holiday until 2012.
