ASHGABAT -- Turkmen authorities in September and October arrested several citizens accused of extremism, a source within the Interior Ministry (MVD) penal department confirmed to Caravanserai November 14. Several foreign media outlets had reported the arrests.
The detainees are confined separately from other prisoners and are undergoing questioning by National Security Ministry (MNB) personnel, the source said.
Lawyers and relatives of the detainees assert their innocence.
